Purpose and Mission
The purpose and mission of the corporation known as the Koinonia Family Development Center (KFDC) is to serve the community in need that includes: feeding individuals and families, supporting youth development, mentoring programs, connecting individuals and families to community resources, and engaging the community by working in collaboration and partnership.
Project Purpose
The project's purpose is to continue to serve the community in-need. We do that by establishing strong and open relations within the community. We provide the basic needs to the underserved in our neighborhood and beyond. This includes providing nutritional meals, health related resources in addition to spiritual sustenance. Recent economic data heavily support our programs. Two-thirds of the children in 53206 live in poverty, besides that, this is one of the most incarcerated zip codes in the nation. The cruelest twist for the residents of 53206 is that they have been actively disempowered to fight back. Furthermore, every two years, the Wisconsin Election Commission runs checks to deactivate the registration of anyone who hasn’t voted in four years. Thereby further eroding the possibility of participating in the electoral process to bring about change. These factors among others establish the bases for the need for meaningful & beneficial programs.
Project Outcomes
Our anticipated out-comes are as follows: We will continue to address the burden of food insecurity and promote health disparities in high-risk minority communities through direct community intervention and collaboration with key stake holders. We will continue to develop partnerships and inclusiveness within the affected neighborhoods. Our healthcare goal and outcomes are to address the burden of chronic disease and eliminate health disparities in high-risk minority communities through direct patient intervention. We also seek to identify gaps in existing programs and gather input from community stakeholders to help prioritize community-based interventions. Our mission is to decrease the mortality rate amongst ethnic minorities. Advancing food & health equity requires a holistic view that considers equitable community development as inextricably linked to health outcomes.
