Our History

The Koinonia Family Development Center (KFDC) was the vision of Reverend Daniel L. Fitten. The group incorporated on November 21st, 2005, and established its 501 (c) 3 status on July 27, 2006. The vision was to develop different projects and programs that would assist St. Matthew C.M.E. Church with growing various ministries and empower them for personal growth, while benefitting the local community. KFDC is dedicated to the development and empowerment of Milwaukee’s communities specifically the 53206 and 53212 zip codes.

Koinonia Family Development Center was established solely for combating the negative effects of poverty. Through the establishment of strong and open relations, we strive to strengthen the self-sufficiency of low-income families and create a stable and viable community through education, employment assistance, health and nutritional support and mentoring. Services are provided as charitable good work. In 2015, under the leadership is Reverend Richard D. Shaw, Koinonia was revitalized and restructured to provide community resources while working with the community in collaboration and partnership. Koinonia also expanded to supporting the 53223-zip code with the acquisition of the property on N. 76th Street in Milwaukee.

St. Matthew CME Church located at 2944 N. 9th street is expanding our ministry. We are operating a second location at 7500 N. 76 street. As a result of this expansion program, Koinonia will become the sole tenant at the ninth street location. The goal for our location is to continue to provide much needed resources & services to our neighbors in the community. We have been a community resource hub since 1958.
